PROJECT
Guildford Grove, Greenwich
BRIEF
To reflect the atmosphere, styles, and materials of Singapore where the clients used to live. The back garden had to retain functionality including storage, bike cleaning space, a lawn, and shade for their dog. The front garden had to be opened out, more about form than function, and designed to be viewed equally well from above and inside the house.
DESIGN RATIONALE
We incorporated contemporary components such as stainless steel, slate, hardwood decking and water, to meet the brief.
RESULTS
Back garden made up of three simple spaces:
- Hardwood decked area incorporating seating and screening
- Level lawn bounded on one side by a path of brush-textured slate with bamboo hedge, and on the other by a flowing rill and yew columns. The backdrop is a white painted rendered wall with stainless steel water columns.
- Behind the wall, a spacious hardstanding area of dark grey granite provides functionality
Front garden:
- Hardwood decking, white marble cobbles and clipped evergreen plants to match the back garden
Surrounded by white painted and rendered walls to help draw light into the basement room of the property
