Royal Parade, Chislehurst
Brief
To revamp a neglected garden, making the most of the space available while being sympathetic to the local conservation area. The garden should be suitable for relaxing, entertaining, and for the clients’ young children to play. Also, to create a new front entrance to the property.
Design Rational
Create a larger, user-friendly space by removing overgrown shrubs, unsuitable over-large trees, and unwanted, self-seeded trees.
Results
The space is broken into three parts:
- Secluded courtyard for dining and entertaining, surrounded by oak walling incorporating benches and planters. The floor is laid with beige granite paving with insets of beige sandstone, leading to the rest of the garden along a pergola-covered pathway.
- Large lawn covering the main part of the garden, bounded by a beige granite path on all four sides.
- Children’s play area laid with Astroturf
- Small patio area outside the garden room
- Boundary walls of pleached hornbeam sails to give extra privacy from the adjoining main road and passers-by
Front garden
- Transformed to allow two vehicles to be parked side-by-side, with room for an extra one if required.
- Laid with beige granite setts and strips of beige sandstone, and with a boundary of matching pleached hornbeam sails to link the front to the rear of the property
